Album Notes

Born into a large working poor family from the ridge country of the Manitoba Interlake district in west-central Canada, Tim Harwill began sculpting a highly personalized blend of countrified roots music before the on-set of adult life while at the feet of an assortment of musical brethren. Now, with lost years of club and festival touring and an ever-extending catalogue of original tunes, this Alberta-based 12-string troubadour delivers an authentic acoustic sound that remains unabashedly rooted in the past while enthusiastically embracing the here and now. This is True Country, from hard and fast to soft and painful, strictly the soul-baring-ly real thing, with no filler. Fuelled by a unique combination of introspective yet insightful songwriting, an unmistakable voice both sweet and powerful, and an easy musicality enhanced by the understated blend of 12-string acoustic guitar and harmonica, Tim Harwill delivers one of the most consistently engaging and passionate performances in roots music today.

With the 2006 release of his 3rd album of signature original material, the 10-title ‘Tim Harwill - All I Really Need', he cements a claim as one of the enduring Canadian independent singer/songwriters.

“All I Really Need”...another fine piece of work by Harwill...a gifted songwriter...vocals and insightful lyrics captivate the listener. - Roots Music Report, 2006

“Thru The Bottom Of A Glass”...full of acoustic roots country flavored tunes...Tim Harwill delivers a winning vocal performance. - Roots Music Report, 2005

"Spinner of Tales"...excellent first effort...should grace anyone's collection. - Northern Journey, 1998

Legendarily reclusive by nature, Tim Harwill lives quietly in small-town Canada with canine traveling companion Koko when he is not on tour. With live performances evoking comparison to the greats of the past, he defines the term 'throwback', creating a true country sound that is strikingly unique in the musical lexicon of the 21st century.

Tim Harwill is originally from the Manitoba Lake District but is now based in Alberta. Both his songwriting and his singing strongly reflect a sense of prairie-country roots. He’s a pretty good 12-string troubadour, but his strength is the vulnerability of his vocals. He has that quavery-rhythmic, high, lonely, soulful, somewhat strangled sound that Sammy Bodean displayed on the best of The Bodeans songs. His songwriting is strong, too. Plough Boy Blues, Thru the Bottom Of A Glass, Finer Place, Match Made In Heaven, and Still Singin’ are all fine examples of his craft. Catfish John Peterson adds harmony vocals and some fine harmonica work to a disc that tries to capture Harwill’s live sound and succeeds pretty well.
