Guitarist Russ Brannon, keyboardist Billy Shields and producer/multi-instrumentalist Preston Glass were gigging together at a jazz club in Sarasota, Florida, and came up with a plan… a really profound idea to form a new group and release a Smooth Jazz album. Thus Three Deep and their debut, COMMON GROUND were born. The group’s first single, Syreeta Wright and Steve Wonder’s “To Know You Is To Love You,” is an outstanding introduction to Three Deep’s music, and features Gerald Albright on both sax and bass. Then there are the fresh and tasty covers of Marvin Gaye’s immortal “What’s Going On” and Ralph Towner’s new age classic “Icarus,” plus eight compelling originals, including the luscious “Almost There,” featuring Amy Keys on vocal and the lusty “Bluvis Groovis.” I have a prediction… Three Deep is headed for contemporary jazz stardom, and COMMON GROUND where we’ll meet at the beginning of their journey! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
