Album Notes

Three of Cups was formed in 1989 at Boston University by Deborah Claar, Ann-Marie Messbauer, and Casey Rich in a course called "Folksong as Social History" taught by singer, dancer and folklorist Tony Barrand. They performed two seasons in King Richard's Renaissance Fair in South Carver, MA, and gave concerts with titles like "A Celebration of Spring," Wenches Three," and "Holiday Revelry." After Casey left the group in 1991, Kelly Demers, a New England Conservatory graduate (who grew up four houses down the street from Ann-Marie) was invited to join. "Higher Ground" was recorded in 1996. In 1997, Kelly left the group to pursue other types of music, and Three of Cups has remained a duo since then.

Deborah and Ann-Marie continue to perform as Three of Cups in coffeehouses, concerts, festivals, and historic sites. They are always looking for "new" old songs with great stories and tunes. In addition to "Higher Ground" and their Christmas album, "sweet Hope of Glory" - also available here at CDBaby- they have a recording for children available on cassette tape, "Songs for Rest and Play."
