Three Years Down is a band without a past... Actually, that's a lie. Three Years Down has got plenty of past. Filth, the Tantrums, the Wynona Riders, Potter's Field, the Vagrants, Drajon Rojo, Here Kitty Kitty, Ciao Bella... 3YD have collectively paid their dues. And what has it gotten them? Bupkis. Zilch. Nada. Ok, well, that's not true either. Three Years Down are no whining, mewling infants pissed off at the world for not making them rock stars. Phuque that. Three Years Down are a rock band, pure and simple. Guitar, Bass and Drums. Nothing fancy. No tricks up their sleeves, no roman candles up their butts. Singer/guitarist Jason Philips isn't 'choking on the angst of a generation'. He's singing rock and roll and packing the power chords to back it up. Lead guitar player Matt Kilbourn isn't 'tugging at the heartstrings of his disaffected peers in the lost generation of the 1990s.' Matt's riffing. He's rocking out. Bassist/vocalist Joe 'TEX' Selby isn't 'tunnelling through the dark recesses of the soul.' Joe's holding down the bottom end and locking in with the beat. Dave E.C. doesn't 'pound out a primeval rhythm to stir the savage heart in us all.' He's keeping time and driving the beat. This is rock and roll. There's no philosophy, no angst, no bullshit. You don't 'mosh' at a Three Years Down show. You shake your ass. And please, kids, leave the backpacks in your lockers. School's out. Backpacks are for carrying your books to class. Three Years Down is an irony free zone. You will see no tongue-in-cheek tributes embedded in a 3YD set. When Three Years Down plays rock and roll there is nothing cagey going on. There will be no understanding wink from the stage as if to say 'isn't this nostalgic and retro.' To hell with that. We like AC/DC. We don't think it's cute that Cheap Trick is still out there rockin' for their fans in their advancing years. No way. It rules. I say it again. This is rock and roll.
