Album Notes

The debut album from Raine Holtz's solo act Through Waves.
Not so often we have a glimpse of the true magic that stirs far below the grounds of indie music, hiding its underrated gems from the mainstream attention, and when we effectively give a closer look, we are truly blown away by the dazzling charms of its offerings. THROUGH WAVES is one of those one-of-a-kind projects, a delightful mix of acoustic rock, pop piano ballads and conceptual writing, all wrapped in ethereal atmospheres and world music.

If approached as an old journal from a (now deceased) schooner captain, "Sail, Schooner" is a morbidly interesting and delightful account of a lonely man who decided to die at sea; a profound angst and mysanthropy (ironically present in cheerful rock tunes at times) that is shared so perhaps a good thing can come out of it. Although having this gruesome background, the music of this album is far from a monotone: frisky alternative rock meets jazzy, heavy metal moods and sometimes even world music and baroque influences can be perceived in the multi-layered atmospheres of heavy bass, enthralling choirs, colorful violins, harpsichord...- and, naturally, the piano. Yes, Raine had a grand piano inside his ship, his only company in the long years at sea.

Apart from the rich musical tapestry that unfolds through the 70+ minutes of the CD, this LIMITED EDITION is a luxurious item assembled by the hands of the artist himself. The BOXSET contains:

• 13-tracks CD in separated plastic sleeve with flap;
• A5 full-coloured soft cover book with 48 pages, lavishly illustrated with photos and packed with lyrics and liner notes;
• A3 poster (folded, one-sided couché) created exclusively for this release;
• Extra personal note and "about this project" A4-sheet (signed and hand numbered);
• Everything housed in a black, solid book-bound handmade box with label on front and extra A5 sheet with track listing and other informations on the back.

This independent release is truly a greatest result of hard work and sheer love for music. A must-have for fans and enthusiasts of all things navy, oceanic and watery. Lift your anchor, for it is time to leave the harbour.

Music genres:
Alternative; Acoustic Rock; Progressive; World Music; Piano Ballad; Neo Folk.

Best Debut Ever

This is probably the best debut album I've ever seen/heard. The care with all of the artwork makes this package a very pleasured gift for music fans and collectors. It comes in a solid black box containing the album itself, a huge book with the lyrics, personal notes and drawnings, a personal letter from Raine -signed and hand-numbered - and an amazing poster. The album is nothing more than Through Waves' music, and what it comes with - sea, dreams, made and unmade traveling, sirens and anchors, and much more. The highlights for me are, totally, 'Forgotten Shores', 'Anchor', 'She's Made of Froth', 'My Redhead', and the final - I guess - version of 'Would You Know'. The atmosphere makes you travel along with Raine in his Schooner, and I'm sure you'll not regret to know this music if you don't.

Great debut album

I really enjoy this album. It's a great alternative rock album. I would recommend anyone who likes something a little out of the ordinary, but still nice and calm rock music, to pick this CD up. There's a lot of really great tracks, like for example "Would You Know", "My Redhead" and "A Breath in Me". Those would be my recommendations if you're to try a few tracks before you buy the whole record. The price of the album might be surprising, but remember: You're paying for a HUGE box set, posters, personal notes, the record itself (70 minutes worth of music!) and a book. Go buy it!
