Album Notes

What's in a name? The Thugz is an unlikely name for our bunch of experienced musicians, but we like the way it forces us to explain ourselves. Actually, Thugz stands for lots of things: Tribal Hippie Underground Zone, or even Totally Happy Unique Gigging Zoners. You might even like to think something up yourself. We are just the Thugz and we love playing classic psychedelic music. We especially love improvising on a great groove, playing our favorite Dead tunes, and, of course, our own originals. All of us come from the back woods of northern California, so our CD's name "Goin' To Town" really means something. We head for town to our weekly gig as the house band at Monte Rio's legendary Pink Elephant - where JFK actually once wet his whistle. That's where we did the live recording for the CD, and that's where our tribal fan base has grown and expanded. Thanks to the other gigs we've done all over northern California and our live broadcasts from the KRUSH (Santa Rosa) and KMGG (Guerneville) we've found friends and family in many places. Every year we do a special "Jerry Day" concert and we've even begun a new tradition: a Cazadero Music Camp gathering under the redwoods and along the very same creek where Jerry skipped rocks as a boy. The idea is to play great music, support our community, and bring our message of peace and love into this troubled world.
