Album Notes

These works were written in 1727, when Boismortier said “screw the poopie French Concerto rules!” and dived into the Italian “concerto grosso” style. There’s no bass, because he wanted to be a maverick on that too: he had written duos (no bass, of course), trio sonatas (which include bass), so for this one, he said “Forget it! Let’s see what happens.” So here you have it, honey - somehow arranged by key relationships, with a piece of green cardboard in the bass flute to get those low Bs.

When you put together six flutists who want to experiment, renew, and discover new life in old works, you get Tibia Magna. Not bound by moldy conservatory rules, TM is proud to have its own view on the harmonic language of classical composers, hoping to bruise certain sensitivities, but also to bring unabashed joy to its audience.
