The Industrial Jazz Group (IJG) – an adventurous LA-based acoustic jazz ensemble showcasing the music of composer / maniac Andrew Durkin – is proud to announce the release of its sixth album, LEEF. Featuring a fifteen-piece band (plus lots of special guests), it is the group’s first (mostly) live album, (mostly) recorded in May 2007 at the world-famous Bimhuis in Amsterdam, and (mostly) mixed and mastered by Nick Moon at Tone Proper Studios in Portland, OR.
In its eight-year history, the IJG has developed a reputation for slightly quirky, genre-bending jazz: what leader Andrew Durkin calls “avant garde party music.” Critics consistently cite the group’s broad, entertaining appeal; as Tom Bowden of Educational Digest explains, “Durkin writes music that people who think they hate jazz would like.” Scott Yanow of LA Jazz Scene, who compares the IJG to Holland’s Willem Breuker Kollektief, enthusiastically calls the group “both a crack up and a memorable musical experience,” and the IJG’s quirky sonic stew was once summed up by Brandt Reiter of the LA Weekly as both “cerebral and swinging, ambitious and accessible, challengingly complex and unabashedly fun.”
Featuring: Beth Schenck, Cory Wright, Evan Francis, Brian Walsh, Katarina Thomsen, Josh Sinton, Damon Zick, Dan Boissy, and Ben Wendel (saxes); Phil Rodriguez, Dan Rosenboom, Andre Canniere, and Kris Tiner (trumpets); Wolter Wierbos, James Hirschfeld, and Mike Richardson (trombone); Oliver Newell (bass), Dan Schnelle (drums), Jill Knapp (vocals), Andrew Durkin (compositions, conducting, piano), and a few other special guests!
