Album Notes

Modern acoustic jazz-folk by Timothy Hill and his trio. This is Hill's first CD, featuring six original songs and two standards. Hill describes the stripped-down sound of this record as evoking Neil Young's Harvest, if it had been recorded for Blue Note Records in the mid -Fifties. Naked and pure, yet this small group generates an amazing variety of sounds, as in the haunting setting of Czeslaw Milosz's 1944 poem, A Song On The End Of The World. The two standards which open and close the record are tour de force performances which feature Hill's astounding vocals drawing on Indian Classical music, jazz scat and Central Asian overtone singing techniques. Hill is accompanied by Doug Weiss on acoustic bass and George Javori on drums. Weiss appears on vocalist Lizz Wright's debut CD (produced by Brian Blade) and George Javori has been heard most recently on Joan Baez' live album Bowery Songs.
