Tim Williams' debut The Refrain signals the arrival of a distinctive brand of roots rock. Imminently catchy yet thoughtful and earnest, the six-song EP showcases an emerging singer-songwriter whose world-weary ruminations belie his age. The most striking feature is Tim's inviting voice - lilting when wistful and raw when intense, it ably conveys a wide range of emotions.

The songs themselves also show such versatility. Mandolin, xylophone, piano, and slide and steel guitars all adorn Tim's universal tales of loss and longing. From the funky acoustic grooves of "Cave In" and "Ups" to the spare, reserved passion of "Leaving You" and "Hard to Let Go," Tim chronicles the dynamics of human relationships in a fashion that's ultimately hopeful and redemptive.

Tim has spent the last year writing, recording, and touring, performing in clubs and coffeehouses - included in his travels were trips to the Midwest and a week in England. Now based in New York City, Tim will tour regionally in support of The Refrain and plans to release his first full-length in 2004.
