As you know Blues has long informed the Jazz idiom, Tin Can Buddha turns it around and brings the best of Jazz improv to the Blues. Recorded at the tiny Quilt Box in Louisville KY, this is Blues and Roots reinterpreted; an honest, soulful and spontaneous performance in a chamber music setting.
At the core of this loose group of artists and musicians are Kentucky native Rodney Hatfield on vocals and harmonica (a celebrated artist formerly with The Hatfield Clan and The Metropolitan Blues All-Stars), and from Harrisburg PA, Lee Carroll on keyboards and Mitch Ivanoff (Central Pennsylvanias most respected interpreters of the blues) on vocals and guitars. They are joined by Stewart Miller of Chicago on acoustic bass.
The music embraces a lifetime of influence; Chicago and Delta Blues, 60s Soul, Appalachian folk songs, Jazz, New Orleans R&B, Country, Black Gospel and Funk. The common thread to all they play is an honesty that only years of experience can bring, their music is spontaneous and a joy to witness.
The CD is the collaborative effort of artists and musicians, as much about the art as the music. The cover was designed by Lexington KY artist Lawrence Tarpey, cover photograph by Rick Bell of Louisville. The CD includes a booklet with 12 Rodney Hatfield prints.

Enjoying the CD very much. I have been a fan of Rodney Hatfield from his Metropolitan Blues All Star days. (I have all four of the AS albums, 2 vinyl and 2 CD.)
I was actually googling the All Stars when I ran into the link for Tin Can Buddha, saw who was involved, and purchased the CD without any more knowledge than that.
I am not disappointed.
I wish I could have been there that evening, it sounds like it was a great time.
Now, if they come to the Richmond, VA area I will be there.

This is a GREAT CD! Especially because my nephew Lee Carrol plays the Keyboard in the group. They are even better LIVE IN CONCERT.
