ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Meet TIN DRUM: an ensemble of musicians bringing an invigorating freshness to contemporary music by exploring themes that fall outside of well-worn trends. This Southern California-based band has released two CDs, REAL WORLD(1995) and SMALL PARADE(2001), both capturing the musical passions of the group, presented with intimate, personal style.

The band's nucleus is the husband-wife team of BURLEIGH DRUMMOND and MARY HARRIS, two veterans of American music who continue to thrive with their current project as strong, experienced singing and songwriting partners.

Drummond was the founding drummer of Ambrosia, a group that helped define the sound of popular music in the 1970s and 80s with a string of hits and 5 subsequent Grammy nominations. Drummond wears many musical hats now, playing drums, percussion and acoustic guitar while also providing vocals.

Harris is a singer/songwriter who has honed her skills on the road and in the studio, working with such top acts as Pink Floyd, XTC, Stanley Clarke and Jimmy Buffett. She plays keyboards and provides vocals.

Enhancing the ensemble are MICK MAHAN(bass) and LARRY TREADWELL(guitar, mandolin, vocals), musicians who embrace and help further define Tin Drum's musical philosophy. The band also continues to work with music industry stars, like the master producer Alan Parsons, who contributed production assistance on "Surrender" from their debut release Real World.

The name Tin Drum comes from Gunter Grass' novel, The Tin Drum. It's about a boy who decides that staying young is preferable to growing up. The name is especially appropriate because the music of Tin Drum is, at times, incredibly playful, young and refreshing-especially the up-tempo percussion, crisp vocals and intoxicating harmonies.

But a deeper exploration reveals rich, complex arrangements and a mature look at the world that is revealed through lyrics that reflect both the ethereal content of dreams and the concrete issues of everyday living. The individual tracks stand alone as examples of gifted composition, while also being compelling layers of a greater musical structure.

At the heart of the group's music is the notion that music never ages, but it does grow up. And with each new Tin Drum release, this band demonstrates its capacity to grow.

Whimsical & Magical !
Tin Drum a southern Californian quartet brings maturity and complex, captivating arrangements to their latest fourteen-track collection. Mary who also plays keyboards has a rich clear concise voice and harmonizes delightfully with Burleigh. The instrumentation throughout Small Parade is whimsical and magical. The subtle up-tempo percussions create a fun mood but some of the tracks are serious and reflective. Tin Drum provides a nice blend of moods and styles. The CD opens with the title track that has powerful, poetic lyrics and vocals that soar. ‘Wailing Wall’ is majestic and haunting with steady percussions and piano. ‘Luck of the Irish’ has appealing bridges that flow smoothly into each other. Small Parade is a procession of musical delights.

One of the best new contemporary rock cd's of the new millennium
Small Parade is definately one of the best AOR (adult oriented contemporary rock) cd's of the new millennium & perhaps of the last two decades. The title track "Small Parade", without a doubt, is an example of some of the most incredibly beautiful and intelligent blending of musical arrangement and lyrical context ever written..this song is a "sleeper" and once discovered by the mainstream is destined to become a "must have" favorite at weddings, and perhaps will provide the vehicle to the success that this incredible band deserves. "Princess" begins as a dreamy ballad which is stealthly laden with a wonderful "Floydish" flavor through the instrumental bridge which fans of the Pink will cherish &love! Every time you listen to this cd, you hear more of the music that's wonderfully hidden in richly complex, multi-textured arrangements. The vocals are crisp and layered with intoxicatingly beautiful harmonies. Small Parade is quite simply one of those rare cd's that you don't get tired of..a gem of a CD that never seems to leave the rotation in the player!!!The entire CD is wonderful and provides a full pallet of great music. My advice to anyone looking for some really incredible and different new music...Check out TIN DRUM!! Buy the CD! You won't be sorry!

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFULl!!!!
An absolutely wonderful CD in it's entirety. I especially love the beautifully arranged, written and performed "Luck Of The Irish" which, if you shut your eyes for a moment and listen, takes you on a wonderful transcendent journey across the Emerald Isle with a magical instrumental blend of piano and violin, laced with penny whistle's..and thats after the incredible beginning of the song which features Burleigh Drummond (the legendary drummer/percussionist from AMBROSIA) playing an Irish BORHAN (is that right?) The CD has made a huge TIN DRUM fan out of me, and all my friends with whom I've shared it. This is one of the best CD's I've ever heard, I love it!!!!Thanks TIN DRUM!!!!

Great!!
Purchased the CD at the concert in Carpinteria. My wife & I haven't stopped listening to it since. It's Incredible, original and grows on you each time you listen. As good as the CD is, the band is even better live, if you can beieve that. If you get the chance to see them live, don't miss it.
