Different content, but it works
author: Kevin W. Parker
If you\'ve got Tinku\'s other CDs, you have a lot of traditional South American music and may look at the contents of this one askance. \"Never on Sunday\"? \"Dust in the Wind\"? \"Chiquitita\"?
I can\'t blame you. However, I have personally been waiting for this CD like it since I first heard Tinku in concert in Old San Diego many years ago. The song that initially caught my attention was their haunting rendition of \"The Sounds of Silence\", and I am delighted that it is included on this album. That\'s a high point for me, but it all works, the melding of Tinku\'s unique sound with familiar but carefully chosen tunes.
If you\'re a Tinku fan, I think you\'ll really enjoy these pieces. If you\'re not a Tinku fan but think you might like hearing songs like \"Yesterday\" beautifully played on Andean instruments, then you might want to give this one a try. But be warned - if you get hooked, you\'re going to want to buy their other five albums!
