"Jigsaw" is the second album from the celtic folk-rock trio Tinsmith. Featuring tradtional songs and tunes of the Celtic nations, Britain, and early America combined with the energy and innovation of modern rock, jazz and world musics Tinsmith is helping to forge a new tradtion for the 21st century.
The traditional music and stories of the Celtic lands were kept alive by the traveling bands of tinsmiths known as Tinkers. Since the celtic rock trio Tinsmith formed in 1998, they have been crafting their own brand of postmodern Celtic roots rock. Combining traditional instruments, tunes and songs with elements of rock, electronica, R&B, blues and jazz influences...
In the spring of 1997 John McLoughlin and Brooke Parkhurst met Rowan Corbett at a festival in Atlanta, GA. After much mutual admiration, they began experimenting with the possibilities that a trio could afford. They left that festival vowing that if anything should change they should join forces. The following year found Rowan a free agent and Tinsmith was born.

If all celtic bands were this good, I wouldn't listen to anything else!

Jigsaw is the kind of album I love to share with people who love quality music, but might not explore different genres. The production values and the musicianship are top drawer. The tunes within are a wonderful combination of classic celtic and new era stylings, the Appalachian and avant garde influences of the musicians is blended perfectly into completely satisfying, evocative and picturesque music. There is not a disappointment among the twelve tunes. I found track 12 to be especially moving.

I love the interplay between banjo and guitar and electric instruments on this CD. My favorite by far is 'Cold, Frosty Morning Set' but several other tracks on this CD have made it into my frequent listen shuffle.

Great mix! Bold style! And the core talent is there!

Jigsaw looks at first glance to be a solid celtic music CD, but once you listen closely - it's more! There are some interesting stylings and rhythms that sometimes combine a rock, blues or jazz feel. And they work! TinSmith has re-interpreted the traditional songs uniquely and well. And the rock-out celtic instrumentals are excellent.
