Biography:
Tintern Abbey is the musical pen name of singer/songwriter Rob Allen. The name comes from a poem by William Wordsworth entitled "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey." Founded by Cistercian monks in 1131 A.DO., the abbey still stands today and is a hauntingly beautiful reminder of the lives and faith of so many in centuries past. The music of Tintern Abbey is as varied and honest as the many souls which once graced the halls of that monastery. Songs of love and loss, hope and despair, Rob writes with a refreshing and vulnerable edge. Rounding out Tintern Abbey is Josh Allen, Rob's older brother and guitarist/producer, and Truman Attlee Penn IV minister of drum beats. Old, new, broken, rebuilt, torn, healed, forgotten, restored. Be part of the future of Tintern Abbey.

Cavalcade of Life
The News Journal
Rob Allen's longstanding affair with music began in his garage bands with his brother at age 13. In the course of nine years, the 22 year-old Mansfield OH, native has experienced a lot and has compiled it into his debut release, Cavalcade, under the project name, Tintern Abbey. Tintern Abbey echoes the sounds of male singer/songwriters, with John Mayer immediately coming to mind. Allen also refers to music his parents listened to, such as Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp, as he was growing up. It's a comparison Allen regards as a compliment. If anything, Allen should be applauded for his focus on the songs he's released so far, replete with well-orchestrated arrangements coupled with acoustic guitar and Allen's vocals at the forefront. "It's an 11-song walk through of my life, particularly in the last two years," Rob Allen says of Cavalcade. "I embellish somewhat because you can make a good song great when you step out of your skin for a little bit. There are a lot of ups and downs and the cd follows them." In the live setting, Allen said to expect a traditional band setup, with room for some improvisation. Tintern Abbey includes his brother, Josh Allen, as well as drummer Lee Penn, musician Jonathan Hape, violinist Megan Oswalt, and cello/bassist Kyle Murphy. "When you have a band name, it tends to open up more avenues," Allen said. "I like having creative control, but there's something about having a band you can't get with just one person," Allen concludes.

Be part of the future of Tintern Abbey... light alternative rock sound is at once upbeat and introspective The name comes from a poem by William Wordsworth entitled "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey". Like the poetic nature of their namesake, the band Tintern Abbey brims with elevated thoughts, and plunges headlong into the Indie world with their cool new project Cavalcade. Tintern Abbey’s light alternative rock sound is at once upbeat and introspective, filled with words of longing, questioning, and the hauntingly romantic lyrics which pervade much of the album. The albums melodically intricate music fluidly tumbles from one heart-felt emotion to another. Singer/songwriter Rob Allen’s unhurried vocal style is fresh and easy to listen to. The listener is drawn in; “…not as in the hour Of thoughtless youth; but hearing oftentimes The still, sad music of humanity…” While there is a certain sadness to the music in this collection, there is also that slow fading of despair that brings a soft note of knowing, disclosing the silent conversation between the artist and the Maker. That still small voice where hope enlightens the soul. -- Mita Pogue

This CD rocks! We saw Tintern Live and really liked the music. The CD is high quality music and the songs are great! I have since loaned the CD to two physicians in the Mandsfield area who have been bugging me for a website to purchase the CD. The melodies and vocals are wonderful! Lovey is by far the best song because what girl woundn't want to be told those things! I am EAGERLY awaiting the next live performance of Tintern or their next CD!
