Album Notes

TAKE THE JOURNEY...

JUST A MAP--A LULLABY TO THE WORLD is an armchair journey around the globe, offering a fresh look at some traditional and not-so-traditional lullabies from thirteen countries, sung in fourteen different languages. It's accessible enough for children, yet intelligent and thought-provoking enough for adults.

Its creator, Christianne Tisdale, is paving her own way as a versatile and prolific performer. Equally at home performing in musicals, dramas, on tv, the concert stage and in the recording studio, JUST A MAP is her nearest and dearest project.

Christianne made her Broadway debut in 1995 as Belle in Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, with an unprecedented two days of rehearsal. She followed this with occasional appearances as Princess Leonide in TRIUMPH OF LOVE opposite F. Murray Abraham and Betty Buckley. 1999 was spent touring the U.S. aboard the Tony Award-winning TITANIC as Lady Caroline, and 2000 featured an exciting turn in the star-studded I GET A KICK OUT OF BLUE (a celebration of 300 years of Yale talent) at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

Christianne created the role of Cinderella in NYSTI's award-winning A TALE OF CINDERELLA, recorded on Atlantic Theatre Records (Grammy nom.), taped for Warner Home Video and broadcast on PBS. TV credits include: DAVID LETTERMAN; HOWIE MANDEL; ANOTHER WORLD; GUIDING LIGHT; and an infamous segment of LINGERIE ON E!

She has sung works ranging from Bach to New Age, in over ten languages, in such famed and varied venues as New York's City Center, Avery Fisher, Weill Recital and Alice Tully Halls, Joe's Pub, The Bottom Line, the Baltimore Orioles' Camden Yards, the Kennedy Center, the Redoutensaal of the Hofburg Palace in Vienna and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. She continues to sing with symphonies throughout North America, and can be heard on recordings for Varese Sarabande, Original Cast Recordings, DRG and Atlantic Theatre Records.

A portion of the proceeds to benefit charities promoting peace and human rights awareness. So far, Christianne and JUST A MAP have donated over $500 to WOMEN FOR WOMEN.

Christianne Tisdale shone...VILLAGE VOICE

Christianne Tisdale brings heartbreaking poignancy...BALTIMORE SUN

Christianne Tisdale demonstrated the skill, perhaps still evident on Broadway but almost lost in the opera house, of acting with her voice...NEW YORK TIMES

Add a clear, soaring voice and she can hold anyone's attention...Her voice is angelic, filling the theater with songs that can alternately caress the heart or jolt the spine...her exquisitely controlled singing voice completely wins us over, reminding one of Poe's silver and golden bells...METROLAND

Musical view of a world much gentler than our own

Fans of world music get a global tour on Tisdale's debut CD, 16 tracks sung in 14 languages from almost as many countries. Most every song is a gem. Tisdale moves easily between languages...It's not every album that lulls you to sleep with snippets from the Hebrew "K'riat Shema al Hanita" or Afghanistan's "Aa Lalo Bacha Lalo," translated in the liner notes as, "Go to sleep, my little moon, in a cradle made of gold and pearls." ...From the Netherlands to South Africa, it's a musical view of a world that's much gentler than our own can be.
