Travis James Humphrey : Yellow Cat Blues

This is my first independent release and a real labor of love; accomplished in two 24-hour recording sessions with Matt Ascione, Steve Treager, and Chris Kosky. If you like acoustic country blues with a hint of lime, you'll probably dig this.

Album Notes

I was born and raised in the small, northern Maine town of Houlton. It's up on the Canadian border at the end of I-95. My Dad was a teacher and is a professional musician, and when she's not being a homemaker, health-care worker or beautician, my Mom sings in the church choir.

It was a great childhood for a musician.

My folks have a baby photograph of me laying on my Dad's lap. He's playing the mandolin, and I'm gazing up intently and reaching for the strings. Dad says it is the moment I fell in love with music, and I believe it.

When I was eleven, I traveled with the American Boychoir School. I saw most of the United States and Europe. It was a life-changing experience for me, and I am truly grateful.

Upon returning to my home town, I started playing in local bands. One of those bands was my Dad's, and those gigs gave me my professional foundation

At age 17, I travelled to eastern Europe, providing concerts and clinics as part of the Maine Youth Jazz Ensemble.

After high school, I served in the United States Air Force as a Bandsman; first with the USAF Band of Liberty, and then as the lead singer for the USAF country band, Silver Wings. I was with the Air Force for almost eight years, traveling to just about every corner of the world, and I had a lot of fun. Now I'm on my own and loving it.

I've played professionally everywhere from Northern Maine to Boston, MA; from Washington, D.C to Nashville, TN; from Branson, MS to Tuscon, AZ. Shonna and I, at long last, moved back home to Maine, and to quote the late/great John Denver, "hey, it's good to be back home again." I am now working on making a reputation for myself as a top-quality, Maine-based musician and entertainer.
