Made by a preschool teacher and jazz/funk/pop singer, Hand Up Clap! is sure to please and delight the youngest of listeners and their grown up friends. The opening track, Brand New Skill celebrates the triumph of learning a new skill all by yourself. A pirate, a rock star, and a detective each make their case on Best in the Land, and Around the Corner brings to light the huge capacity for love shared between children and their parents. Grizzly Bear is a story told in song in the tradition of Shel Silverstein, and kids are encouraged to move and breathe deeply in Yoga TIme. Next is New Haircut, calling to mind the nervous excitement some of us still feel at the barbershop, followed by a traditional kids' canon in Pop. Hispanic families will recognize Duermete mi Nino, sung to the artist as a child by her Cuban father. Closing the album on a light note, Cookies is a call to the sweet tooth in all of us. Hands up Clap! is celebration of music and fun for the whole family.
