Ted Mentry and his band released two albums in the early eighties to high critical acclaim, (Illustrated Victims in 1981 and Artful Dodger in 1984) and quickly became the darlings of the Rocky Mountain music scene. After constant touring and a relentless live schedule, Ted Mentry, who had opened for everyone from Firefall to Lynyrd Skynyrd, abruptly disbanded the group and disappeared from the circuit and remained an enigma for more than 15 years.

Ted Mentry's back and better than ever and, while no tour dates have been announced at this time, what transpired during this extended hiatus seems clearly documented in Get A Life , the incredible new CD which was released with a Laser show and reception at the Fiske Planetarium on the CU campus on Dec. 10th to a standing ovation and rave reviews.

Ted Mentry is a dynamic singer, songwriter and extraordinary guitarist who blends electronic samples and programs with conventional instrumentation to create classic compositions with passionate, unforgettable musical and lyrical integrity.

I consider myself an eclectic music enthusiast. In fact, you're just as
likely to find me listening to the sensual sounds of a jazz saxophone or an
alternative New Age piece as being deeply moved by a classic R&B ballad or
playing my air guitar to the hard edged riff of a good rock tune. Imagine my
surprise and delight when I found that all these musical styles could be
found on one great CD - Get A Life by Ted Mentry, a compilation that may be
beyond any categorization as many truly cutting edge creative works tend to
be.

Once in a while an artist comes along that has the ability to not just
lay down some tracks or even tell a story, but to actually transmit to the
listener in a very sensual-emotional way what the music is communicating.
Mentry accomplishes this as he guides us on a journey that slowly unfolds
with both instrumental and vocal pieces. On Waterfall, for example, as his
voice soars with an accompanying sax, the listener is given an impactful
visceral experience of being in free flight.

Don't let heartfelt love ballads like Not Afraid, Gracie Lee, and Carlita
fool you either, this CD packs a punch, as the title song, Get A Life
demonstrates. Electric and acoustic guitar enthusiasts alike will find a lot
to love on this CD with some very innovative techniques and song transitions
to boot. You won't get bored with this one. Just when you think you got him
pegged, Ted surprises you.

Mentry has captured some of our collective angst in songs like Hurry Up
and Wait when all that seems to matter is rushing in traffic to get around
the SUV in front of you so you just have to go and wait more somewhere else..
Surely there is something more precious to life than this and Mentry helps us
explore this on Get A Life. Only one problem though - Once you listen to
it, you won't want to put it down!
