Before Toast became one of the youngest bands to garner the top gigs in Santa fe New Mexico and a win on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus battle of the bands they were only young teens with a common love of music. Almost all of them had previous musical experience, some playing their instrument for over ten years before joining Toast. Toast grew out of the need for a heartfelt band that was serious and committed enough for Ben, Cody, Miles and Jackson to share their extensive musical creativity. From their first gig in the spring of 2005 Toast became wildly popular in local Santa fe, soon becoming the most loved young band. Toast's ideology has always been to focus on the music both live and recorded never about popularity or publicity, which is why it was a strange notion to be part of the Hyperactive Music Magazine and John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Battle of the bands, too their surprise out of 150 New Mexico bands Toast won. Toast soon garnered many coveted gigs and a press spotlight including a live spot of the Ear to the Ground Radio show, The Thirsty Ear Festival, Zozobra (the largest local event for Fiesta's), The Santa fe Plaza and a live CD recording by John Strader of Southwest Stages who has recorded such big names as Zigy Marley, The Cowboy Junkies and James Brown. Major musical influences for Toast range from Ben Harper to Jack Johnson, Incubus, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Audioslave and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
