Writings by Serge Kozlovsky / http://sergekozlovsky.com
Light of the sun, dissolving mist,
It calls in the distant way

This music is a result of deep emotional experience and meditation. The guitar of Todd Boston touches the listener’s heart deeply and it is filled with joy together with the romantic and piercing tunes of the artist.

Todd Boston is a truly gifted artist. Classical, Celtic and Indian tunes are melted in his music. And the artist’s compositions are very melodious.

And this is not by chance because his second solo release “Touched by the Sun” was produced by legendary William Ackerman and a team of world class musicians who helped Todd create the unique sound of the album.

All the projects produced by William Ackerman have a unique taste. They are very rich and diverse, but at same time all of they are very heartfelt. This feature compels one to listen to all the projects form the first seconds to the last ones in one breath.

What more could be said about the powerful album “Touched by the Sun”? Todd Boston is a versatile guitarist. His instrument easily conveys tiny nuances of the artist’s emotions. And the strong flavor of folk music is felt in Todd’s compositions.

Todd Boston is a virtuoso guitarist. His music brings a sensation of freshness and newness. The album “Touched by the Sun” is perfectly suited for meditation experiences, soul and mind therapy and deep relaxation.

From MainlyPiano
"Touched By the Sun" is the second release from multi-instrumentalist/composer Todd Boston, following his 2010 debut, "Alive." Produced by Will Ackerman and co-produced by Tom Eaton and Boston, the album features an impressive list of contributing musicians that include Charlie Bisharat on violin, Eugene Friesen on cello, Snatam Kaur‘s vocals, Ramesh Kannan on tabla and cajon, and Michael Manring and Tony Levin on basses. Boston performs on guitars, dotar, flutes and bass and composed all twelve pieces, some of which were arranged by Ackerman. With such a stellar group of collaborating artists, it is no wonder that both the music and the sound quality are truly exceptional. Boston has studied with the masters of a dizzying range of musical genres, and his compositions reflect an assimilation of many cultural styles. All of the music has a very positive, uplifting energy, and it’s fascinating how Boston shifts from Eastern stylings to Americana without missing a beat.

"Touched By the Sun" begins with a short prelude for dotar and cello that establishes the eclectic tone of the album. Hypnotic with a hint of mystery, it’s a great start! “Twilight,” features guitar, dotar (a simple Indian lute), flute, cello, tabla, cajon, and bass. The gentle finger-picking style on guitar gives the piece a very relaxed and contented feeling that is enhanced by Friesen’s soulful cello. “Celtic Heart” is a favorite. Guitar, cello, bass and percussion combine to create a folk feeling that overflows with emotion and passion. Darker than most of the other tracks, it really sings! “Sol Rising” goes in the other direction with a song of joy and new beginnings that lifts the spirit and lets it soar. “The Brightest Night” begins as a peaceful guitar solo and gradually evolves into a guitar/cello/violin trio with supporting percussion. I really like this one, too! “Under the Orion Sky” would be perfect in a film showing open fields or meadows or any kind of peaceful, serene setting. Love it! “Full Moon” picks up the tempo and energy level tempered with a haunting, mystical quality. Guitars, flutes, violin, tabla, cajon, and fretless bass cast a hypnotic spell. “Cascading” is just Boston and his guitar, with dotar adding occasional embellishments (also Boston). Peaceful serenity at its best! “Waves” was recorded on the day of the Japanese tsunami (3/11/11) after watching videos of the massive destruction. Intense yet very beautiful, this piece is dedicated to the memory of guitarist Michael Hedges. The last track on this exceptional album is the title track. Guitars, bass, Snatam Kaur’s elegant voice, violin, and light percussion soothe and uplift, leaving the listener refreshed and with a sense of well-being.

Todd Boston has created a wonderful musical journey for everyone who loves soulful guitar and world music styles with substance and beauty. "Touched By the Sun" is highly recommended!

The RajMan Review
This is only Todd Boston’s second solo album, but you might think it’s his twenty-second judging by the
intricate compositions, masterful performances, and impeccable musicianship that make the guitarist sound like an old hand.

In addition to acoustic guitar, Boston plays dotar (an Indian lute), flute, and bass, and is joined on this outing by a stellar lineup that includes bassists Michael Manring and Tony Levin, tabla and cajon player Ramesh Kannan, violinist Charlie Bisharat, cellist Eugene Friesen, and vocalist Snatum Kaur (whose 2012 tour features Boston).

The wide-ranging instruments and the talents behind them give the CD an equally varied and exotic feel, encompassing new age, world, and fusion. But at their core, all the tracks exhibit a down-home, folksy vibe that makes the music warm-hearted and accessible.

My favorite tracks are “Twilight,” “The Brightest Night,” “Under the Orion Sky,” and “Touched by the Sun,” but the entire album is serene and beautiful.

Review excerpt from Music & Media Focus
It was just about a year ago when it seemed like every time I turned around I was hearing the name Todd Boston being mentioned. Whether it was as a recording artist, solo performer, a member of an ensemble, a recording engineer, a co--producer, or the numerous accolades for his previous CD, Alive. His hybrid style, which he categorizes as “World Acoustic Music heavily inspired by Nature and Life,” draws from a variety of influences. Todd’s music combines the distinctive sound and spirituality of the East with the guitar innovations of the West such as the use of electronic effects, alternative tunings, and the advanced fingerstyle techniques of people like Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges. Todd believes music is healing and continues to explore the deep relationship that exists between music and movement.

The term “world-class” gets thrown around a lot these days, yet in some cases it is well deserved. Todd’s new release, Touched By The Sun, is certainly one of those cases. In addition to his jaw-dropping guitar work, the CD is a collaboration of some of the top talents in this genre of music. Even more so than his debut album, Alive, which garnered critical acclaim and extensive radio airplay, his new release incorporates extensive and intricate ensemble playing and a diversity of world music influences. The production on this CD is a work of art in itself, although not surprising coming from the studio of Will Ackerman, an undisputed master of recording and producing acoustic music. From recording with world-class musicians and producers to releasing award-winning CD’s, and performing at large concert halls and festivals, Todd is on a trajectory for well-deserved and widespread international recognition. Touched By The Sun is a pan-cultural musical masterpiece that I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

REVIEWS NEW AGE

Touched by the Sun engrandece la palabra 'Música'

Mientras tanto, Touched by the Sun pasará a ser lista de favoritos en Reviews New Age. Muy Muy Altamente Recomendable!!. Hay que comprar este CD.
