Todd Burge is an independent singer songwriter from Parkersburg, WV. Although he has fronted many bands over the last couple decades (63 Eyes, Triple Shot & the Larries) ranging from Punk to Bluegrass, he is probably best known as a solo performer, playing his self described "contemporarily slanted acoustic" tunes. His uniquely expressive baritone voice demands your attention as it rides over impressive and at times, furious flatpicking and finger style guitar. This three time Mountain Stage performer (Public Radio International's Radio/TV show www.mountainstage.org) plays over 150 shows a year and has shared the stage with a diverse array of artists including Ricky Skaggs, m.o.e., Tim Finn (Crowded House), Junior Brown, Chris Smither, Jorma Kaukonen (Hot Tuna & Jefferson Airplane), Tish Hinojosa, Larry Groce, and Robbie Fulks.
"Around this state he's probably the 'dean' of all the singer/songwriters. The finest singer & songwriter that we have. The hardest thing for a singer/songwriter is to distinguish yourself to be original, because there are so many, I mean there are thousands of them out there and Todd has that quality. His music is unmistakable. You hear both his voice and the way he constructs songs, the way he rhymes things, what he writes about, all those things are unique. I don't know anybody else who does it like Todd does. There are some people who fall into traditions and you can say they sound pretty much like this person, but Todd doesn't sound like anybody and that's what I like the most about him, is the originality."
Larry Groce, Host of PBS's Mountain Stage

Christian and I love our New Year CDs
author: Betsy Ray
Christian and I love our New Year CDs.
We listened to it during our 2,000 mile trip to OH, KY then back to SC & GA.
Wood County Man & Long Live Bobby Lane are my favs; Christian is partial to
Jesus Night Light and the song that says "no head will take the gumption from
any bird" (Grandparent's Backlawn) but especially your having the Son of God in your Manwich.
Pants splitting fun. Good good stuff!

Got the CDs over the week-end. I love them. the first verse of Cutie
made me laugh and cry at the same time. Todd has such a good way of
getting straight to the heart of the matter.
Wood County Man rocks. Is that a little Junior Brown influence I hear?
And as always, your voice and lyrics make me homesick.

Todd Burge has a knack of making you feel like he is singing right at you. When you listen to his music, you feel like he's right in the same room telling only you the story. Thanks to the super crisp production, you can hear Todd's pick scraping the strings and every breathe in his singing. Deft, Classy and instantly memorable. Let him into your heart and minds and you won't be sorry. Todd Encompasses the best of Townes, Dylan and Gram Parsons and should soon be in the pantheon of great singer/storytellers along with them.
