Todd Whatley is a gifted composer. This is immense all by itself. The fact that he also created every other aspect of this CD (including the art work and design of the sleeve) raises the bar to new heights. This effort has resulted in a collection of songs that defy being delegated to a category… a genre, and open a whole new direction in the musical expression of life in our time.
All that aside, on a purely musical level, it is exhilarating to hear Todd’s lofty tenor soar above the driving rhythms in an amazing arc of nuanced melodic invention that draws the listener into an intricate tale that speaks to each on that timeless plane where all of us meet in our common humanity.
These twelve songs span the full range of that shared experience; they are a testament to the passions that drive us. From the lust for world domination skewered in "Maybe Someday" to the uncertainty and angst of facing a difficult future in "All these Days", listeners are constantly surprised by the richness and originality of the material… and the magical power of the voice that brings these songs into the world.
Besides, no serious CD collection would be complete without "Silly Party Dummy"… the perfect testament to life in our new millennium.
