What does Downbeat Magazine's top Trumpeter say about Tokeli? "I love to hear a great singer - especially one with style, control, pitch and a wonderful sense of rhythm. Tokeli is one of those rare talents - she has it all, plus beauty. I love her sound. She is destined to become a major star." Gilbert Castellanos
"Tinged with Latin and African influences, 'Where Do You Start?' is among the year's spiciest jazz releases, a record that consistently surprises and mesmerizes from beginning to end." ALL ABOUT JAZZ
"Tokeli is at her best, letting her voice paint pictures with the words, as her band performs with unrestrained enthusiasm behind her." CDREVIEWS.COM
"Tokeli's rainy day romanticism is moving and utterly spellbinding." WHISPERINANDHOLLERIN.COM - UK
"Tokeli has a unique name and along with that comes a uniqueness in her music. She sings with wonderful spirit and comes up with new and interesting views on jazz classics. With her band of young inspired musicians together they embrace creativity and it’s a joy to be along for the listen." Peter Sprague
"Her voice is velvet, her interpretations, maverick -- she's a composer's dream come true. Her bittersweet rendition of "I'm So Relieved" will give you reason to hope, and her vocal styling on "Someday" is like listening to a soft summer breeze. This may be Tokeli's first CD, but it is definitely not her last." Lori Tritel
"...a gifted voice" Smother Magazine
"The first time you hear Tokeli sing, within seconds you realize you are somewhere rare and marvelous. Cocooned in her captivating warmth, cradled in her lithe lyricism, you are helplessly, willingly swept away on her magic cloud, spellbound in this moment she is conjuring just for
you. What kind of sorcery is this? Who knows or cares?" Carl Hammond

The Genesis Of A Songbird
author: John Hesterman
Years ago there was a rock & roll band called Deuce Coupe with a vocalist named Tokeli. It was obvious she was immensly talented and miscast. Fast forward to 2007 ... This woman has style, a magnetism that captivates everyone she touches with her voice and her music. She is a MUST SEE. WHERE DO YOU START is a MUST HAVE. So get it. Love, John :-)

A fresh take on old songs, an overdue intro to future standards, plus Kurt Weill, with mandolin and harp! Tokeli and her crew are fearless, open, accomplished, and a whole lot of fun to be around. The arrangements, the players, and especially the voice--they work happily together, and they make us smile.
