Album Notes
As recently reviewed in Family Fun --
A New CD That Proves Oldies Are Still Goodies

Cabaret for kids? It may sound crazy, but it works on Moon Soup, a snazzy kid-friendly disk from nightclub singer Tamara O'Leary. Possessed of a feathery alto voice, O'Leary has a knack for choosing Great American Songbook standards with luscious melodies and witty lyrics that tickle the fancies of kids born more than half a century after the music's heydey. Lunar imagery is sprinkled throughout, including the dreamy "Moon River" and the whimsical "If You Stub Your Toe On The Moon." Ages 6 and up Family Standards, $15 CD; www.familystandards.com
- Moira McCormick, Family Fun Magazine, October 2005

And reviewed by American Idol's Michael Orland --
"It [MOON SOUP] is what American Idol is for television. It's a CD the whole family can get into.

Host of the Bloomberg show, Joe Franklin, raved "MOON SOUP breaks new ground in family music. Tamara O'Leary, a brilliant new singer, has put together a gem of a recording: jazz standards for families. It's a must for every family and their respective CD collections. Go out and buy it! If you can't, then beg, borrow or steal it!"

Featuring selections by Cole Porter, Henri Mancini, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Sammy Cahn, among others, MOON SOUP delightfully achieves what may have seemed incompatible goals in presenting children's music: to combine intelligent songwriting, with fresh jazz-pop interpretations on a recording as appealing and appropriate for children as for their parents. Family Standards has carved a new niche in the music industry - FAMILY MUSIC. Parents are tired of listening to mindless simplistic songs and long for real music for their little ones. Music they can share and enjoy with their children.

WONDERFUL Album by Exciting New Artist
I can not stop playing this CD. It is NOT just for kids, but for kids of all ages -- anyone who loves good music will love this. A perfect mix of uptempo tunes with ballads, you will thrill at the sound quality, and the quality of Ms. O'Leary's VOICE -- which MIGHT remind you of a Linda Eder / Barbra Streisand / Judy Garland / Nancy LaMott / Liza Minnelli type of singer, with a great range of high and low notes, and a great emotive quality. Then add in the song choices -- from show tunes to songs of inspirations, and you'll know you're listening to someone who we will all be hearing more from. (No, I'm NOT a relative! :) Oh, the musicians and the arrangements are out of this world, too. Pure jazz. The only problem you'll have is deciding which track is your favorite, because unlike most albums, there are no weak tracks. This is A MUST-HAVE for fans of jazz, cabaret, vocal, and just GREAT music!

A great introduction to the American classic for a child.
I'm thrilled with this CD. Finally, music my grandchildren enjoy as much as I do. It is so good to have this collection to introduce children to the Great American Classics. It is a perfect balance of vocal and instrumental.

Amazing CD for all ages.
This CD brings back such happy memories. Just hearing some of the songs like 10 Minutes Ago from Cinderella I feel like I'm a little girl again. So thank you for that. I think this CD is truly a treasure.

moon soup is chicken soup for the soul
just love to play tammara o'leary 's moon soup first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. it just makes my world feel good.

Not just for kids...!
"I'll be there" just brought tears to my eyes. And great version of Cinderella's "Ten minutes ago I saw you" - one of my MOST favorite songs.
I can imagine my young nieces and nephews all dancing their cute little hip-hop to this music. I can imagine ME twirling around to it. It's almost just as much for adults as for kids.

Loved the CD. Great way to introduce my kids to a new music style
Loved it!

mary -- a new fan

This album -- certainly not just for kids -- is such a delight! While I am a fan of cabaret, I sometimes tire of the standard interpretations, and the often high-soprano voices, that others bring to their craft. In sharp contrast, Ms. O'Leary's voice is rich and warm, as are her song selections. This is that rare kind of music that one can equally enjoy the first thing in the morning (to help set an optimistic tone for the day) or to help one unwind at the end of a hectic work week. My own favorites here are "I'm In Heaven"; "What a Wonderful World"; and "That What God Looks Like to Me." They celebrate the simple joys, but richly. Those songs, and the others -- both the simple, sacred songs, and the whimsical ones -- never cease, in Ms. O'Leary's capable hands, to provoke a smile, a nod, and an inner glow.

It's about time we can listen to good quality music. I am enjoying the Moon Soup CD so much, Tamara O'Leary's rendition of songs gone by, and her beautiful voice. It's truly a treat.

Wonderful.....suitable for all ages!
Moon Soup is a lovely and fun cd! Tamara O'Leary has crystal clear voice, beautifully supported by wonderful, off-beat arrangements of both well-known and little-known songs. Soulful and hip......a truly happy experience, suitable for listeners from one to one hundered years old!
