I'm 'psych'ed. I've been waiting for this cd and just from the clips, I know it'll be on my playlist for a long time. Now I just have to wait 'til payday to buy it. Great job Peter! I look forward to the next release.

The Best Garage / Psych Album Of Our Time !
author: Sean Hutton
Let me get straight to the point : The song " PSYCH-OUT USA " could easily be included on any of the 3 NUGGETS box sets , which means among the greatest garage-rock songs ever recorded .This song sounds like the theme song from coolest psychedelic-era film that never was . The Tol-Puddle Martyrs might have even upstaged the Chocolate Watchband , Standells and Strawberry Alarm Clock in a scene of flashing colors , beyond-cool hipsters and mod-clad groovy chicks ! But .... this ain't all about retro , as this should-be-hit isn't an emulation of some 60's song - it's an equal to the champions who grace albums like NUGGETS ! completely original , yet in the same league . The amazing thing about this entire album is that its super-hip , super-fun and at the same time has an undercurrent of spirituality at the same time . The lyrics express warmth and hope without pretension to catchy tunes that rock and rock hard .
Other faves include the mod / soul / psych groover " IS THERE SOMEONE THERE ? " which is a hip-shaking gem that should be mandatory play for any club dj worth his/her northern soul collection , The hard-pop of " INTO MY LIFE " ,
and the garage-guitar crunch of " THINKIN' BOUT YOU " which sounds like The Small Faces with a better singer . This album has it all : razor-sharp guitar , super-tight bass and drums , colorful keyboards and Peter Rechter's excellent vocals which convey at times a warmth and compassion and at other times a swaggering attitude that would make Jagger proud !
For all Psych , Garage and Rock And Roll fans - THIS IS A MUST ! ! !

A breath of fresh air for your pop sensibilities!
author: Ken Morrison
Well, I had a long day in the car yesterday. 500 miles. And I had two albums with me - Paul McCartney's new one and this one by Tol-Puddle Martyrs.
The verdict? Both albums are fantastic! Which is a pure delight, obviously. I had good expectations for both of them, of course, but both were way better than I had hoped! And "Psyche Out USA" has the added advantage that I can use the artwork to hypnotise people with!! Handy!!
Anyway - enough of the McCartney album. That can take care of itself. To the point in hand...
Yep - I genuinely love this new Tol-Puddle Martyrs album! There's nothing not to like!
Stand out tracks? Well actually, that's the amazing thing - and I know this sounds like a cop out, but there are no weak tracks at all on this! Nor is there anything weak about the playing. The band starts of as tight as a gnat's sphincter, and stays that way throughout. Every note is spot on , both instrumentally and vocally. This is a band who know their way round their instruments, as well as round the studio. The production is excellent.
The title track is brilliant, of course. Certainly an immediate fave! Probably the obvious lead single track (if such a thing still happens!) It sets the mood for the album really, with a sound that would be totally at home in any of the past five decades (including this one). In fact make that the past 6 decades, as there's even a hint of Buddy Holly in Peter Rechter's unerring vocal style.
"Into My Life" Love this too. The second of many perfect pop songs in this set.
Damn! I realise I'm just going to be saying this about all 12 tracks! So I'll precis!
"Chapel And Vine" is great, of course. I found myself singing along to it in my best John Lennon voice! Yes - brilliantly Beatlesy! Superb!
The song before that "The Better Cause" was an instant favourite too. I'm a sucker for those military marching rhythms. Compliments to the drummer on this one, as throughout.
Love the riff and the stop-startiness on "Social Cell". And again on "The Window." Then there's this organ riffing on "A Long Story Short". Can't work out that riff! I love things where the chords go someplace I don't quite expect! The quirkiness of this one reminds me of the Stranglers slightly. Probably because of the forementioned organ playing.
"Psyche Out USA" starts off on a high with the title track and never comes down right through to the final notes as the train disappears at the end of "Chapel And Vine."
I know I'm going to be listening to this album for a very long time, and I'm extremely pleased to possess it. It's an Australian masterpiece. Congratulations to Tol-Puddle Martyrs!
