TolumiDE (“toe-lu-me-day”) was created from her name Tolu Olumide, which means “Thank you God” in her native language Yoruba from Nigeria. She is a dynamic performer of Nigerian-Canadian descent currently based in Maryland/DC. As the recipient of 2006 NEA (Nigeria Entertainment Award) for Best Female R&B Artist, her voice carries a sense of new possibilities. Her songwriting and composing skills reflect her conscious and poetic spirit and her music brings a range of soulful inspiration from Afro-beat and jazz to dance styles of today's urban youth and adult audience.
TolumiDE has performed as an opening act for Styl-Plus (A Popular Nigerian Pop Group) in Maryland, USA - June 2006. She was also part of an all-female band based in Toronto called -Women Ah Run Tings. The band was a four-time Canadian Reggae Award nominee.
They produced an energized blend of Dancehall vibes, Roots Reggae, RnB, Funk, Rock and Hip-Hop flavour.) During her time with Women Ah Run Tings, TolumiDE soon became the
Lead R&B Style Soulful singer and composer of some of the melodic lines perfecting Women Ah run Tings’ musical compositions. The band had opening performances for Burning Spear, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer and received a lot of recognition and exposure via concerts, radio airplay and music videos that were released on Canada’s #1 music outlet “Much Music”.
She grew up in Nigeria and always loved Art and Music. She drew a lot on the walls in her room and sang at the church choir, school choir and cultural dance troop. She originally thought she’d like to follow my father’s footsteps of becoming an artist/architect/engineer but in her final year she decided she just wanted to be an artist. Her journey at York University’s Fine Art program in Toronto, Canada was the perfect place to develop her artistry, “My faculty was filled with music, dance, film & television and multimedia specialties, all of which I had always wanted to explore” she says.
TolumiDE currently performs solo or with her band. She also sings with her church choir, performs special numbers at weddings, festivals; and occasionally renders the Nigerian or American National Anthem. Her single “Because You Know” is featured on “The Green October project- Volume 1” mix CD and her debut EP album - “Specialty” is currently on sale and available on her website

Community and church involvement will always be a part of her lifestyle. “I appreciate God very much trust that He has molded me to be who I am today through His word, my family, friendships and ministers. He has inspired my personal and career goals and I pray He continues to guide me to fulfill his destiny for my life here on earth”.
