The rain crashed down from the dark and ominous night time skies and lightning struck perilously close to Ted’s rusted brown Chevette as he sped down The Dulles access road towards Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia. He glanced quickly down at his watch. 9:15 P.M. The flight departure time was 9:55 P.M. and he quickly surmised that he still might make it, but just barely. In spite of the weather he pushed further down on the accelerator, ignoring the fact that the driver’s side windshield wiper had now completely stopped working. “Shit…..just what I need…” he muttered to himself as he nervously glanced down at his watch again and then swerved quickly into the left hand lane, barely avoiding the car that had been in front of him. The sound of a car horn behind him let him know that his driving was suspect to say the least. Squinting his eyes, he was able to just make out the control tower through the driving rain and darkness, looming about a half mile ahead. After what seemed to be an interminable wait he pulled up to the ticket gate of the hourly parking lot. Hitting the brakes with a squeal he grabbed the ticket and pulled quickly into the lot. Hastily parking the car in the first available space, he grabbed his keys, jumped out of the car and in a cross between a fast walk and a run , headed towards the terminal. “Christ” he said to himself, as he checked his watch again “how did I ever get into this mess!” and disappeared into the terminal........
