ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
THE SONG "MY LOVE IN BLUE" WAS FEATURED ON THE TV SHOW, "ONE TREE HILL" ON MONDAY, MAY 5TH - CW NETWORK.

The strong songwriting, intricate acoustic guitar, quiet vocals and haunting atmosphere of "Wake of the Moon" recall, most obviously, the work of Nick Drake. Yet the music occupies a space of its own. The vocals and acoustic guitars here are wrapped in a moody swirl - of violins, cellos, hand drums, balalaika, organ, ambient keys and electric guitars - conjuring not only the melancholy folk of artists like Drake but also the ethereal textures of dream pop. Despite the CD's "lo-fi" origins, it is beautifully produced, with inspired arrangements and crystal clear sound. Literate, thoughtful, striking.

Listener comments about "Wake of the Moon":

"I was truly blown away from the first second I put it on. It's brilliant ... you have created a great original sound. There is a beautiful tenderness in the music. The mixing and the playing are fantastic." - Daniel Miau

"I must say what a project! Over the past week I have listened to 'Wake of the Moon' 6-8 times on my portable player, in the car. It has grown on me like a (good) fungus ... Now, tonight I put it into the stereo and listened with headphones, 2x. Yikes, oh man, hauntingly beautiful." - Kevin Klingberg

"Your CD is outstanding! 'Wake of the Moon' has quickly become one of my favorite 'chill out' CDs ... the orchestration is brilliant. If you listen really closely there is a lot going on in each of the songs but it is never done in a manner that sounds busy: each part adds perfectly to the mood ... I think my favorite tune right now is 'Glide' ... I can't get over the electric guitar on that song. It's playing in my head constantly! The sound on your CD is wonderful as well ... Anything I fail to mention in this e-mail is only a result of there being so many good things on the CD that I can't possibly mention them all ... The perfect way to experience 'Wake of the Moon' (in my opinion): kicking back on a warm summer evening on the front porch with some candles and a couple of real good beers. I intend on doing that!" - Doug Malorny

"My friend recently played me your album, and I'm absolutely crazy about it! Admittedly, we first became interested in your music because of the Nick Drake comparisons and links, but I really feel that you have your own voice ... your songs have a style that is very personal and an atmosphere that is unique." - Joshua Cohen

"A crystal clear production, excellent guitar playing and a haunting violin adding extra flavors. Songs like 'Let It Go,' 'My Love In Blue' and 'Caught Up In The Show' deserve to be heard by many. CD-rack position: between Nick Drake and J.J. Cale." - Mikael Ledin

So mellow and WHAT a voice.
I cannot recomend this CD enough. It's just so unbelievable beautiful, so mellow and WHAT a voice. Toms voice sounds a little bit like Kurt Wagner, but then again not. Very unique. Tom Hansons music really sucks you in and you forget time and space. You just mellow out and ENJOY!

Amazing songwriting, top-notch playing, and acoustic tone to die for. It's all
I met Tom through this CD. I knew I'd have to have it after hearing the first track. One of the things that amazes me about Wake of the Moon is the variety of moods and feelings the songs evoke. Whether he's strumming a sleepy progression (Incancescent) or finger picking a happy melody (Easter), Tom's songs grab me and won't let go. And those low, breathy vocals fit the songs like they were grown together in a carefully tended garden.

I listen to iTunes on shuffle. Every time a Tom Hanson song started up (until I learned them all) my reaction was always the same. "Whoah, that's awesome! Who the **** IS THAT!?"

Do yourself a favor and add this CD to your collection.
