Tom Hook and The Black Dogs were formed in Orlando, Florida in 1989. Composed of staff musicians from Walt Disney World, the band soon took the Traditional Jazz world by storm with the release of their first album and tour, "Come Hear the Truth!” Dedicated to infusing contemporary rhythms and sounds into classic New Orleans Jazz, the "Dogs” changed the face of the Traditional Jazz world. Always in pursuit of the original goal, to introduce new energy into vintage American popular music, they crested the wave of “Jump Swing” years before the current crop of swingsters.
Also, having discovered the shocking fact that outside of the Crescent City, the bulk of the nation is completely oblivious to “Mardi Gras” music the “Dogs” have always made it a point to carry the finest in New Orleans Rhythm and Blues sounds to the rest of the Traditional Jazz world. Touring Europe in 1990, China and 1992, and Europe once again in 1997, the Black Dogs have shared the gospel of New Orleans music with fans of many nations as well as headlining Traditional Jazz festivals all across the United States. Tom makes his home in New Orleans, where he works as Director of Entertainment for Delta Queen Steamboat Company, and plays music in nightclubs around the Crescent City
