Album Notes

Whispers in the Wind is the first recording of Tom Maynard, a Boston-area singer/songwriter. It is a collection of original songs with a strong traditional sense. Here are songs about life, love and the search for meaning in a world that has forgotten its roots and traditions, that has turned its back on the spiritual and forgotten that in wholeness is found healing.

All the songs are recorded using primarily acoustic instruments, guitar, Celtic low whistle, harmonica, Native American flute, djembe, ‘cello, upright bass, etc, and the recording has that hand-made sound. Featured alongside Tom are the musical talents of Seth Connelly, Pat “Hatrack” Gallagher, Valerie Thompson, Leo Egan, Ken Porter and Tim Maynard. Seth also engineered and produced this album.

Along with his original songs, Tom has recorded his interpretation of Michael Smith’s classic song, The Dutchman, based on a version he learned from Mark Ryer, one of the key players in the South Shore Folk Music Society in the late 70s and early 80s. Valerie’s ‘cello adds a poignant touch to this beautiful song.
