Album Notes

On Get Up and Fall Down, his debut release on Indo /Inbetweens Records, Tommy Carns displays his unique vision of folk rock, Americana or whatever you try to call it. Soulful and original, his songs are captivating.

Tommy Carns was reared by folksingers on Cape Cod and weaned on a steady diet of blues, work songs, black and white spirituals from the southern U.S., ballads from the British Isles, and sea songs from New England. At the age of 19 he moved to California as part of the rock trio the Hitchhikers and two years later to Amsterdam where he played in cafes and immersed himself in the craft of writing songs. After spending time working as an intern at the Library of Congress, Archive of Folk Culture, he returned to the west coast.

In California he divides his time between writing songs (and pimping them) teaching guitar, recording, learning strange and wonderful folk songs, performing and staring off into space. Besides his solo career Tommy also is a member of the Billy Talbot Band and it's offshoot Boatclub, sings in the a capella duo called Chicken on a Raft, records film soundtracks and generally indulges in multiple musical activities simultaneously.

Drawing from a rich background Tommy Carns writes bold, catchy songs. With shades of country, blues, rock and pop, it's his own flavor.

"Tommy Carns' ability to write and deliver the words of sadness are without match...still gives me goosebumps after repeated listenings."

This is by far the best album in my house!!! My 8 year old daughter dances while she cleans her room, listening to Tommy. If I could bottle her energy, the world would be a kinder and cleaner place.
