Grace Bay

by Tommy McCarthy & Louise Costello

This is the first and long overdue recording from a couple who need no introduction to lovers of Irish music on both sides of the Atlantic. They produce here a perfect blend of the regional styles of West Clare and North Galway.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Though Tommy was born and raised in London, we can hear through his father's influence the accent and rhythmic pulse of pure authentic West Clare music. Echoes of Bobby Casey and Willie Clancy can be heard in his bowing and choice of tunes.
Louise's lyrical box style is a natural consequence of playing with her father Dinny and local fiddlers Joe Morris and Jim O' Brian. In her late teens she broadened her musical horizons and became part of Galway's vibrant session scene. It was there that her banjo playing became influenced by Charlie Piggot.
As owners of the famous Burren Bar in Boston, Massachusetts since 1996, Tommy and Louise have established the bar as the premier venue for traditional music in the US. There can be few in contemporary trad music who have not enjoyed performing in the intimate warmth of the Burren Back Room or joined an arousing session in the front bar.
