Influenced by Boston's 60/70's folk scene, Tomy Wright musically and professionally maintained "a foot in both camps" over 30 years in the military, embracing the contemporary folk genre as his vehicle of expression. A world traveler and recent Marylander, Tomy penned what the Baltimore Sun called "a loving ode to a slow road" supporting successful grassroots efforts to ensure Frederick County's gravel road legacy. He also achieved national airplay on NPR's Car Talk (show #0321) with his "I'm Gonna Get Me a Car."
What's the Word on Tomy Wright?
"His music is also an expression of his insight into life and its frustrations, the evitability of death and a search for love and meaning in existence. He voices his emotions with humor and longing." Ann Keays, Stars and Stripes, 1979
"The sound is from the heart, the chords insistent, the words pouring from somewhere deep inside. The words: they're lyrical, poetic, flowing...the expression of a life's worth of living and loving and working and traveling." Clare Lopez, HawkEye Vision, 2003
"The 'dapper troubadour'...displays a flashy stage presence tempered by sensitivity....his music crosses many boundaries including jazz, soul and gospel." Tom McLaughlin, The Next 72hours, Frederick News-Post Weekend Guide, 2004

"...a nice collection of well-written songs..."
author: The Gazette
"The CD's music has obvious 1960's and 1970's folk rock influences, along with elements of bluegrass, soul, and gospel music. The lyrics border on poetry....I'm sure that Wright's fans, both new and old, hope that another 25 years of life's experiences don't have to pass before his second CD is released."

A folk treat with heart and soul...
author: Sherri Lyn Robbins singer/songwriter/music healer
There is so much musicality and heart to be found here...poetry, jazz, blues all wrapped up in a folk package. There are really full musical arrangements and the songs range from ballads to more up tempo fare. If you are a folk lover, I think you will find this cd very enjoyable! My personal favs are Diane's Tune, Whislin' Thing, Stylish and The Wisdom Song/Frosty Eve...a little something for everyone.
