TONIA HUGHES

If music provided a window to the soul, then Tonia Hughes would allow you access to the deepest chambers of her heart. With a style that spans the gamut, her vocal colors and musical acrobats merely serve to further punctuate her intense love affair with the Father.

From the subtleties of her rendition of Great Is Thy Faithfulness (For Hymn, 2006) to the thunderous vocal applause given in Worship Me on her latest project (I’m Ready Now, October 2009) she’ll beckon your spirit to follow her into the throne room of God.

Tonia simply has a way of connecting with her audience. Her Kingdom anointing is evidenced by a heartfelt delivery that allows her to surpass racial, denominational and inter-generational barriers that often segregate worshipers.

In addition to serving as a lead vocalist with the Grammy and Stellar Award nominated Excelsior Chorale Ensemble; Tonia has been favored with a myriad of opportunities to provide background vocals at various events featuring such artists as Tremaine Hawkins, Rance Allen and William Murphy.

Because of her versatile vocal ability, Tonia has opened for various events featuring legendary music artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and Little Richard. However, she’s most grateful for the experience garnered while working with industry powerhouses Fred Hammond, Mary J. Blige and Judith Christie McAllister.

Although Tonia’s musical journey has given her meaningful vocal experience – it’s the evolution of her life as a worshiper that makes her ready for movement towards her destiny. She has followed hard after the teachings of her spiritual mentors and through obedience – has gained access into the intricacies of God’s heart and love for worship!

Now with a greater anointing and hard press for his presence, Tonia is ready to lead worshipers into a realm of the spirit that can’t quite be articulated. She just knows that there is a mandate on her life to help others experience His glory!

Tonia has spent the last five years broadening her appeal in the Twin Cities by garnering critical acclaim in musical theatrical productions throughout the area.

Her latest and long-awaited release I’m Ready Now is uniquely different from anything that she has done to date in that it embodies all that she is vocally and spiritually. It is a beautiful culmination to a life in pursuit of true worship.

Tonia resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband Brian Kendrick and their children.
