Storybooks And Rhymes is a CD of 12 songs written and performed by Tony Anania (ah-NAHN-ya). Although the majority of the songs reflect a strong Bossa Nova and Samba influence, you'll also hear hints of Jazz, Classical, Tango and Rock. The album was released on October 17, 2008.
The CD's title is taken from a line in the third track, Something Missing; The reference to "storybooks and rhymes" is expressed with irony, reflecting the contrast between life's disappointments and the storybook endings that many can afford to imagine while they're still very young. So, from the perspective of a "forty-something" year-old person, the songs hit on subjects like the hurtful games that adults play, malicious backbiting, broken dreams, and untimely death.
But while the songs deal with the realities of life in this system of things, there is a sense of hopefulness conveyed by the album. In several of the songs the listener will perceive the sense of humor that one might expect from someone who's learning to roll with life's punches. And the last track, "Two Words", certainly allows the CD to finish on a very happy note.
Tony Anania lives in Western Massachusetts, USA. Family ties in Italy and South America have exposed him to some of the musical styles you'll hear on Storybooks And Rhymes.
