Shakin' Down the Acorns, Vol.2
author: Joe Hannabach
Campbell's Farewell to Red Gap is what brought me here. I play (mandolin) in a weekly jam of mostly OT/fiddle tunes and they pulled that tune out yesterday and it blew me away. So, I'm glad to be able to hear a nice clear version of it so I can learn it. But what I really want to comment about is the "Notes"; how touchingly written they are. As an ex-English teacher, Creative Writing teacher, published author, lifelong editor, etc. etc., I think I know good writing when I see it. Or, I should say, FEEL it. The story about the old man and the wedding just moved me in the way that good writing always does. Nice job on the Notes.
Thanks for the website.

Farewell to Red Gap, most wonderful waltz tune in the world.
author: Louise
I first fell in love with Tony's recording of Campbell's Farewell to Red Gap around 12-15 years ago. When I moved from my big old farmhouse 9 years ago, after my husband and I divorced, a huge amount of stuff went into storage for 5 years. My box of tapes came out of storage last month, and I've just rediscoverd his tapes, Vol 1 and 2, and Swinging on a Gate. Each and every time I hear Farewell to Red Gap I have tears streaming down my face. It's a mixture of joy and sorrow, I guess. Bittersweet, poignant. I can't find any local bands that play this song, though some are interested now that I've described it to them. The best part? Every time I hear it I get up and waltz to it, but haven't found the dance partner for it, though. Maybe some day.
