As a longtime Tony Middleton fan – I first heard him sing on the movie soundtrack of Joseph Losey’s movie ‘Eva’ in 1962. (Ouch! That dates me) - I was delighted to be able to buy this CD. His records have always been so hard to find (even as downloads) and because he’s a Northern Soul celebrity, they are too expensive for your average collector to buy. I wrote the first UK feature on Tony and have campaigned for CDs of his great music to be issued for many years. His solo work has such a rich variety, he’s worked with the finest arrangers and producers including Bacharach, Leiber & Stoller, Claus Ogermann and Johnny Pate to mention a few. He’s starred in Broadway shows ‘Cabin In The Sky’, ‘Porgy & Bess’, ‘Purlie’ etc. Tony lived and recorded in Paris, France and toured Europe extensively. Mr Middleton is one of the unsung greats – and completely original. This CDR is taken from his personal collection, dubbed from the singles like ‘Blackjack’ which was a Cashbox record of the week when first issued in late ’58. He has a big voice in the tradition of Roy Hamilton and Billy Eckstine and you can hear him to great effect here on the sensational ‘Paris Blues’, ‘Let Me Down Easy’ ‘Sitiest People’, ‘A Garden In The Ghetto’ pick any track you like – and if you live in New York catch him ‘live’ if you can, it’s a unique experience. I look forward to more CDs from Tony many of his greatest sides have yet to be reissued. Peter Burns SoulMusicHQ.com

Yes, this album does indeed showcase Tony Middleton as a very versatile singer with a beautiful voice. The songs on this CD are a varied group, with my two favorites being \"Border Song\" with a gospel feel, and the haunting \"A Garden in the Ghetto\". Also, \"Lady Fingers\" is unbelievably erotic! The only song on the album that I don\'t particularly like and skip over: \"Is It This or Is It That\". But overall I love this album, and it is the power and vocal quality of the singer that impresses me. I hope he will collect more of his recordings and issue another CD.
