Album Notes

Captivating and mesmerizing is the way to describe Tony Smith's brilliance on the Bass Guitar.

Born on the outskirts of Philadelphia into the bosom of a musically talented family, Tony's desire to play the guitar was ignited while watching his father play in the church they attended. His father's teaching, Tony's love of music, and his desire allowed Tony to develop his own unique style of playing, becoming one of the most innovative bassists in the world today.

Tony's phenomenal abilities amazingly transport you the musical world of his enormous talent and versatility.

Tony Smith is the reason most people will never play the BASS. Upon listening, it becomes clear that his grasp of not just the instrument but of the theory and complexities of music itself are firmly in his grips. "Smitty" as he was known back in the day in Crestmont, became well known and successful early on by playing with his teeth. Got that? BASS with his TEETH. No gimmicks. he really played with his teeth. But that was nothing compared to his now famous "CLAW" style of bass. It's sort of like watching Roy Clark pick a banjo and Stanley Jordan finger his guitar all at the same time. Mind boggling and still extremely musical. I used to shed with "Smitty" back in the day on Coolidge Ave. He taught me a lot. He's a world class musician as well as a talented writer and teacher. This CD is a treasure for students and music lovers alike. Much love to you Tony and continued success!
