About "Tastes Like Love" ...

This new CD really captures THE LIVE TVB SOUND! Preston Hubbard(ex Fabulous Thunderbirds & Roomful of Blues bassist) described it best, while working on the project, "yeah man, it's the Fabulous Thunderbirds meets the Stones!" The goal for me, production wise, was to make it sound like my favorite records of yesteryear. All of those old Memphis studio recordings, all of the old Chess and Stax records sound warm, organic, and fat!! And you could really hear that natural room reverb! That's what I was going for. The most important thing is the songs! Along with some of my very own new songs, this is a collection of some of my favorite songs! There are no "fillers" on this record. Every song bumps! It's a rocker. Grab a cold one & play it loud my friend!

Peace & Love, Tony Vega

Tastes Like Loves (Blue Texas 004) - What tastes like love, you ask? Maybe the Tony Vega Bands home cooking on there third album. Vega is a fluid guitarist and a kick-ass Texas-twang blues singer, and he works with the cream here, including bassist Preston Hubbard. Vega tips his hat to the Red Devil's Lester Butler on a pounding cover of "Automatic," and indeed, if you've worn out your copy of King King, this record takes up where it left off. Exceptional in every way.

"Must be something in the Lone Star state's water... where else do so many sizzling acts make their home? ...'Yeah You Right!' shows what the buzz over the Tony Vega Band is all about."
- Blues Revue

"Tony Vega is a monster!" - Billy F. Gibbons

Founded in 1997, the Tony Vega Band has become one of the premiere independent blues rock acts in the world. This hot Texas act has forged their own brand of blues & roots infused rock n’ roll. What makes the band’s sound especially unique is Vega’s relentlessly soulful guitar and one of the most unique velveteen voices to come out of Texas in years. The hard driving, hip-shaking rumble is provided by longtime TVB drummer Jeremy "Honeyboy" Pierce and Gulf coast blues veteran bassist Larry "Lownote" Johnson. Find out what the buzz is all about!

This CD absolutely rocks. If you ain't dancin' by song #2 you gotta be dead. They could have left off Mumbo Jumbo but hey, that's totally based on me and my tastes. I'm sure some of you will love that one too!

Beyond words. I heard the Tony Vega band live once. What an experience of energy. All of their CDs make you feel you are there live. Hendrix, Stevie Ray and Vega, small bands with some type of "magic" that is seldom heard. Finally, a full CD with each song incredible....artist's expressions, not producers mayby??? :-) I think so.

  • Solid Texas Blues

  • Kings of Raunch! You are going to LOVE this CD.
    author: Gerry "ElGatoGed"

The Tony Vega Band are Kings of Raunch. If you like your blues played tough, strong & real-to-life, then you are going to LOVE this CD. There is an excellent choice of cover material, & Tony's original songs are solid, & more than hold their own. Particular standouts among the original songs are "Hey Mama," & "Hard To Love," but it sure isn't hard to love this disc! Outstanding versions of "Mumbo Jumbo" & "Automatic" jump off the disc. Tony's vocals & guitar work are excellent throughout this eleven song CD. He plays & sings with authority, strength, & conviction. The rest of Tony's band is stellar throughout, with no egos getting in the way. The ryhthm section is muscular & plays a great groove. Outstanding bass work is provided by the legendary Preston Hubbard (Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roomful of Blues, currently w/ Nick Curran & the Nitelifes) on Upright & Fender bass. Preston's inventive bass playing push, propel & swing like nobody's business. This CD made me go grab my Upright & slap along. Highly Recommended. BUY THIS DISC!!! You'll be glad you did!

  • Good Hooks, Great playing, Awesome Tone, They got it all!
