Album Notes

Tony Vic is one of the most anticipated rappers in the Bay Area. His flowing skills, above and beyond, have been influenced by a variety of artists who are greats and not just trendsetters, including Marvyn Gaye, Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, and Tupac. But the biggest influence for Tony Vic is his brother Kevin, who’s been his idol. For about 11 years now, Tony Vic has truly been blowing us away. His faith and inspirations from God guides him through his passionate filled career. He says, “I knew I had a blessing on my life to perform and bring crowds together since like age seven.” This becomes apparent, since Tony Vic’s talents emerges from performing in theater, stage plays, and even commercials—all from east Oakland to Los Angeles. And now, as a grown and talented artist, Tony Vic keeps it general: “It’s not about turfs with me.”

In his new album, titled Testimonials, Tony Vic shares with us actual experiences that individuals can come to understand. He says, “Not everyone can relate to wearing 50 thousand chains, or pushing a Bently or a Benz.” What most of us do understand is driving around in a “bucket like it’s a Lexus,” or breaking off a rough relationship with someone. He works with hip-hop producers Kevin Choice (whom produced half the album), Dame Taylor and Aristotle, producers who Tony Vic believes are some of the best in their field. And working in that field isn’t easy. For Tony Vic, struggles are endless: he says he’s proving himself to “people, to God, and to my family. Not being out on the streets selling dope.” He isn’t about struggling on the streets and following trends because, simply put, his “dreams are hard enough.”

When Tony Vic writes, he needs to be in a mood—one that rises from emotions or pains. This lyricist does not let stress keep him down. He actually feeds from it to help him strive and work harder. When asked what makes him different from other rappers, he says, “I’m not afraid to be myself, and talk about my insecurities, my heart, my struggles, my pain, my love, my life, my tears, and my fears.” And so even when he writes a party joint, he needs to be inspired by anything that’ll trigger those universal motifs shared by individuals. And sharing this poetry comes about easily for Tony Vic through the mic. He feels as though the microphone doesn’t judge: “It doesn’t hate on you, it won’t clown on you or classify you. It just listens.”

I've been waiting for Tony Vics cd to drop; Been a long time fan and his music exuberates the reality of life of a young black man having a vision to fulfill. I can't say that I have a favorite, being that all of them are a breath of fresh air being that it's "bay area raw" and purely for the most faithful hip hop fan...This is WELL worth my $!!! I'll be on the lookout for CD#2!

Great album, start to finish! Especially 'Get It', 'Everything You Like', 'Put a Lil' Pimpin In It', gotta say...some classic cuts. Good Music, good Lyrics, smooth stuff for a fan of Hip Hop. Think Bay version of KanYe vs Ludacris w/ some Common Sense...Cop It!
