ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
As a Jazz radio announcer, DJ and aficionado I have the distinct pleasure of being associated with some of the finest musical minds to have ever played, composed, arranged and produced this music.

Often those masterminds of the music move about searching for the right combination of elements to be in place in order to bring an idea and a concept to fruition.

In 2006, Tony White – a fine saxophone player and musical educator of young minds, was introduced to Billy Mitchell. Billy just happens to be one the premier musical educators, arrangers, producers and stellar pianists in Southern California or anywhere else. It was truly serendipitous.

Tony had been talking about stepping outside of just teaching music and doing more playing of his instrument. Thus as providence would have it, the two men just happened to be in the same general area at the same time when a chance introduction brought them together. Little did they know that The Tony White Project would be the result of that introduction.

Tony’s saxophone work is simply sublime.

The arrangements of these classic jazz compositions is done in a way that appeals not only to the senses, but also to the good taste of the listener as well. Billy Mitchell is to be commended for his reverent yet innovative treatment of the music of Freddie Hubbard, John Coltrane, Eddie Harris Duke Ellington, Benny Golson and Herbie Hancock. His always-innovative efforts at the keyboard can never be overlooked. The accompanying musicians are of Billy’s own creative genius. They’re called Minority Report and they turn in a most impressive accounting of musical excellence. Bassist Nori Iji, guitarist Yu Ooka, drummer Quentin Dennard and percussionist Memo are to be congratulated and thanked for making the music come alive.

This is a magnificent collection that I would recommend to every Jazz fan to have in their collection. I fell I love with it when Tony and Billy sent me the first preliminary copy of t he session.

I\'m honored to have been asked to supply the notes for this recording. I predict that it’s going to be as big a success in the Jazz world.
ENJOY!!

Great CD
This CD strikes a great balance. The soloing and arrangements are more than interesting enough to keep a serious jazz and funk fan (like myself) engaged. But the overall sound is "smooth" enough that the casual listener will like it too. Finally something to put on during dinner that my parents like, but doesn't bore me and my wife to death! Classic material, brilliant soloing, funky comping, very well recorded. Tony's rendition of "Amazing Grace" brings tears to your eyes. You will like this one.

Loved it!
As my former teacher "Mr. White" as I still call him has instructed me to write only good things about him in this review. I'm joking. Seriously, I loved this album! It was played all weekend long on repeat. Keep them coming Mr. White!
