Album Notes

The Toronto Jazz Orchestra is excited to announce the release of The Path – its first CD in five years. The album features compositions and arrangements by Erik Patterson (winner of the 2008 Toronto Jazz Orchestra Young Composers Competition), Juno Award-winning pianist David Braid, SOCAN/IAJE Commissioning Award-winner Andrew Jones, acclaimed contemporary music composer Moiya Callahan, and five compositions or arrangements by Josh Grossman (including the hit single and title track The Path). The album includes solo work by many of the musicians in the ensemble as well as two tracks featuring outstanding vocalist Sophia Perlman.

The Toronto Jazz Orchestra (TJO) is one of Toronto’s most exciting big bands. The ensemble features 18 of Toronto’s top young musicians, most of whom are graduates from the city’s university and college jazz performance programs. Founded in 1998 by the ensemble’s artistic director and conductor, Josh Grossman, the TJO regularly performs at The Rex Hotel and at jazz festivals across Ontario. Past performances have included notable special guests such as the illustrious Phil Nimmons, saxophonist Seamus Blake, and Grammy award nominee Kurt Elling.
