Singer/songwriter Dave Tough comes out hitting hard with his first release I'm Right Here.
With a voice reminiscent of early Morrissey Tough's guitar-focused, pop songs hint at the melodicism of John Lennon and other English hitmakers.
Tough mentions, "I think above all, each song has good melody and interesting harmony and form, beyond that its all relative to the individual listener."
The majority of the album was written, produced, and performed by Tough. He says, "most of the songs are about relationships in my life and some of the events that followed, good and bad. With this album, I am saying that I've made it through all of the hardship that was becoming an adult, and I'm still here."
Recorded at Ozark Sound Studios in Springfield, MO, I'm Right Here features all real instruments.
"I chose the studio because it has so many vintage instruments from the 60's and 70's that you just don't find on the albums of today. I am looking back to a time when songwriting was a real craft and each writer could be identified by his or her own individual sound. That is what I am trying to achieve with this album."

Dave Tough plays smooth, easy music but it seems he might actually want to rock

Dave Tough plays smooth, easy music but it seems he might actually want to rock 'n' roll.
Although young, Dave is polished and incredibly talented -- he plays guitar, keyboards/piano, bass, drums and percussion. His writing, while good, tends toward the melancholy side of love lost and longing for what is no more or not meant to be: "Love Like Yours," "The Pills Won't Hide Her Pain Tonight, "Away," "Don't Ask," "One More Day," ...almost all the 9 songs deal with those themes.
The melodies are generally gentle and a bit haunting although the opener "Love Like Yours" actually sounds a bit inspiring. However, where the sound is generally best and all the pistons are firing is on the more up-tempo rockers "Don't Ask," "Soubrette" and the best of all "Twisted Love," a tune that really shakes. Angela King, Tina Sibley, Adam Stafford and Ned Wilkinson provide dynamite backup vocals.
Dave writes all his own music and lyrics and potential for greatness. Hope he mixes in a little more rock 'n' roll in future work, because that really works well for him.

This album changed my life. I've been in love with a lesbian named Bethany for years and after we spent a weekend driving out to Eastern Oregon to go thrift shopping, listening to Dave's music the whole way, she finally gave heterosexuality a chance! You can fall in love to this album, we did. Oh, we found a pumpkin suede couch too for complimenting our crackling fireplace and chihuaua-skin rugged love-nest.

He's DefinitelyTough Enough

Aside from great instrumentals, Mr. Tough's CD "I'm Right Here" has some of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard. Everyone on the Planet should listen to this CD. The songs on the CD weave a pleasantly surprising tapestry of color and life. You can tell he knows what life's all about...from experience. That's hard to find in music these days. It's worth every penny!
