Album Notes

The Pacific Northwest may not be the first place you would expect to hear rollicking Celtic, Folk or World music, but The Town Pants are determined to change that. The Vancouver, Canada– based band combines aspects of Irish traditional, acoustic pop, roots Americana, even Australian and Mexican influences, to create their own unique brand of “West Coast Celtic.” Armed with a pawnshop’s worth of musical instruments, The Town Pants play songs that appeal to young and old alike. The music of The Town Pants remains in the heart and head long after the music stops. The Keogh brothers, Dave and Duane, lead the band in vocals and instrumentation with banjo and acoustic guitar, teamed with Aaron Chapman on tin whistle, harmonica and vocals, and fiddle maven Virginia Schwartz, who weaves a fiery thread through the songs. Together they generate a rare blend of passion, energy, animation and spirit. With the added musical touch of a hand percussionist and bass player, The Town Pants are unsurpassed with their fast-paced West Coast Celtic style.
Feverish and stampeding, The Town Pants’ lively renditions of traditional and contemporary Celtic-influenced tunes, combined with the group’s original compositions, create a distinctive sound that has attracted fans from around the world. At home, Vancouver fans selected The Town Pants as one of their favourite National Celtic/Traditional Acts in Vancouver’s Georgia Straight entertainment weekly annual “Best of Vancouver” readers’ poll, where they were shortlisted with such groups as Great Big Sea and Natalie MacMaster.

fantastic irish folk band

if i could rate this band higher i would. i have seen the pants a few times this year and every show is fantastic. there is nothing like rowdy, beer drinking irish pub songs to liven up a group of people. i saw these guys at the celtic potato festival at Tags in Big Flatts in the finger lakes.... well worth the six hour wait for them to come on stage.

Many live recorded albums have left me less than impressed but Town Pants blew me away with their latest live album, "Coming Home". Packed full of wonderfully written songs that put a tingle in your toes and keep you moving, this album is a must for anyone and everyone. With the added touch of the audience's participation in the background you are given the feeling of being at one of their equally impressive live shows. I highly recommend this CD to all music lovers. Thank you, Town Pants, for making me smile.

Perfect!

I first heard about the Town Pants from Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol from "Battlestar Galactica") at a German SciFi Convention. A Canadian band playing some kind of irish folk rock? How's that gonna work? Just fine! I really love the sound of this band, "Weight of Words" is one of my favourite songs of all time. As I heard of this live CD, I had to get it. And thanks to CD Baby, it was no problem getting it from the other side of the Atlantic ocean. I won't go into details which song is the best and which the worst, that's a matter of taste (although I loooove "rasputin"). If you like this kind of music, you won't be disappointed. 5 Stars, for the best celtic music outside of Ireland.

Great Disc

This is almost a live "best of" album with only 6 new tracks, but I'd probably buy the album just for "Rasputin" alone. The live versions of previously released songs not only differ from the studio cuts - they shine. This live album is so full of the energy you get at a live show - if you like Celt rock - buy it now!
