The name "T&R" was created from the names of Kemp "Toppy Hill and Raymond Hudnell. Toppy and Raymond began singing at the early age of eight and eleven respectively. They were called the Twilight's, a group that included brothers Ellis "Butch" Hill, Jerome "Peanut" Hill and also neighbors Nathaniel (Jr.) Walker and Margaret :Peaches" Pinder who later became the well known "Brandy Wells".
The Twilight's has two local hits "SHIPWRECK" and "IT'S BEEN SO LONG" which took them to Uptown Theatre in Philadelphia, PA. They also enjoyed a long stint of engagements under the management of Preston (Lover) chapman and were included in shows with big names such as James Brown, The Temptations, Gladys Knight And The Pips, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and others. Later the group came under the management of James A. Bryant. They opened for Chuck Jackson in Atlantic City at Club Harlem and at the request of Ms. Trudy Haynes, they were the entertainment for the Miss America Color Pageant. They have traveled extensively and as far as Fort Wayne, IN.
Now, after many years, Toppy, Raymond and Butch are back together with new member Leo (LD) Davis II under the Lightning Label created by Jim Bryant, who is currently their manager. Toppy is the producer and musical director and Daryl Brown of Wilmington, DE, is the studio owner and engineer.
