For her third limited-run recording: \'58 Transtar Deluxe — Traci Rae Letellier goes for the gut with an Americana roots-country sound. Made up of all original tunes by Letellier, and recorded with a full band of guest musicians on Saturday, March 25, 2006—\'58 Transtar Deluxe is named after the Studebaker truck that once belonged to the grandpa of Letellier\'s husband.
There were only fifteen 3/4 ton 4x4 Studebaker trucks manufactured in South Bend, Indiana in 1958. Of the fifteen, only ten were sold in the U.S.A.
Each copy of \'58 Transtar Deluxe (1st edition printing) comes in a sleeve printed by Stumptown Printers of Portland, Oregon using the old-fashioned letterpress method.
Musicians featured: Traci Rae Letellier – acoustic guitar & lead vocals; David Farley – dobro, mandolin, & banjo; Ryan Shields – piano; Mike Jaspers – electric guitar; Josh Christians – drum set; Brandon Wimberly – bass guitar & upright; and Corrie Beth Wimberly – harmony vocals.

The only reason this loses a star is that it's just not long enough. Five tracks of near-perfect construction that leave you wanting more and usually get me to press play and listen to it all over again. Her vocals put me in mind of Canadian singers like Norma McDonald at times. The EP has a great live feel to it, such that you feel you're in the room with Traci and the band, and this adds to the CD's whistful feel, that Rudy mentions in another review. This one should not be under the radar and should be in any self-respecting Americana fan's collection. (One small gripe: beautiful sleeve, so why put a sticker on the open end? Ripped the cardboard when I took it off.)

The songs in this CD have a way of capturing, in compressed form, those unique moments we often try to hold on to but can't because of the limitations of our temporal existence. Traci's songs help connect me with those fleeting moments that have tremendous significance for me, so that I can live my life more thoughtfully both in the present and in the future. Thanks Traci!! Soli Deo Gloria!
