Album Notes

Trad Linn – Has been performing since 1996. The core group as it appears on this album is Terry Kane – vocals and guitar, Will Collins – whistle, and Doug Lammer – uilleann pipes. Often times in performance it has included many members of Will Collins family, most noteably his father Dave Collins an accordion player from a family steeped in the traditional Irish music of the Bronx. This first CD released by Trad Linn features only Terry, Will, and Doug with guest artists George Fairchild – bodhrán playing on several tracks and daughter Audrey Fairchild – cello adding her plaintive notes to the song “An Mhaighdean Mhara.”

Terry Kane has toured Ireland several times and has performed and taught music workshops across the United States from Montana to Washington, DC. She has a masters degree in Music Education from Crane School of Music and is employed as a full-time musician working mainly in Philadelphia area. She is also a member of the duo “Kane and Beatty” www.kaneandbeatty.com She has studied the Irish language for 10 years and continues the family tradition of singing and dancing. Her sean nós singing is featured on her solo album "Treasa Ní Chatháin, Some Sean Nós."

Will Collins is from a large Irish family. His mother is from Clare and his father, an avid accordion player, grew up in the thriving Irish immigrant community in the Bronx. Will learned the whistle while playing with his father but has made considerable effort to take lessons and play with the great whistle players of today: Mike McHale, Jack Coen, Mary Bergen and American born Jimmy Noonan. Will is featured prominently on this CD most notably for the sweetness of the solo hornpipes and set piece.

Doug Lammer met Will Collins at The Catskills Irish Arts Week about 10 years ago. Doug has become a regular presence at the Collins home. The hours spent playing together are easily recognized in the tightness of the whistle and pipes. Doug grew up in Western Canada, worked for a time in Washington State, and moved to New York City to enjoy the vibrant Irish trad scene. Doug and Will perform in the duo "Piper's Whistle" in New York and travel with Terry Kane as "Trad Linn."
