"Oregon Stories" paints a stark vision of Americana drawn from the band's roots in folk, rock, country, and traditional music. The ghosts of Stephen Foster, Woody Guthrie, or Bill Monroe might be heard echoing through these 15 originals, but the imagery uniquely embraces the Northwest from timbertowns to longhouses; from rainbelts to meadowlarks.
The Trail Band features vocalists Rindy Ross (Quarterflash) and Lex Browning (Great Plains). Fiddles, pennywhistle, mandolin, hammer dulcimer, piano, banjo, guitars, drums, and full brass distinguish their new traditionalist sound.

This CD grows on you like moss on an Oregon stump

Oregon Stories expresses the gloom of living in the NW for the disenfranchised, who likely are not the target audience for the music. For those of us just looking for the typical harmonies and incredible instrument range that the Trail Band provides - it is all there. The gloomy theme dilutes well by mixing the CD in with other Trail Band CD's for those that like a little cheer with their gloom. With less brass and fiddle than usual, the style seems a little bit of a departure, but the songwriting and singing are first rate. While I miss Skip it's cool to see Marv play and sing with the band after working behind the scenes all these years. While I save five stars for the live Christmas album, Lewis & Clark, and Songs from the Oregon Trail - this isn't far behind.

The Best Yet!

This effort is the kind of rousing good fun we've come to expect from the Trail Band's shows, and their best CD yet. As always, the music is first rate, and the songs are the kind that keep running through your mind, whether they be mournful ballads or toe-tapping up-tempo. The subject is Oregon, but the music and themes are universal. It's a winner.
