After listening to THE BOBBY TRATES PROJECT one wonders what this talented artist is capable of. The songs are characterized by a fresh rock sound with a highly unique musical style. Trates proves that he is an adept songwriter and a very skillful and well-rounded guitarist. What really stands out is the emphasis on melody, especially the guitar playing. Trates blends both electric and acoustic guitars brilliantly. Bob showcases a very catchy rhythm style that is complemented by singing guitar solos that stick in your mind. A rare and impressive combination for a guitarist. Importantly, the songs are always the focal point, which projects maturity in musicianship. There is also a strong sense of stylistic diversity from the upbeat instrumental spotlighting trates' guitar solo prowess "THE VINEYARDS OF ENGEDI" to the serene and hypnotically floating instrumental
"SEA OF GLASS". The balance of the songs include singing, with trates' deep passionate voice carrying the melodies.
To reiterate, variety is a strength as one is grabbed by the hard rock guitar riff of "IN A GLASS" while mesmerized by the deeply thoughtful lyrics and smooth flow of "DON'T WALK AWAY". Speaking of variety, one of the songs, "WHERE I FIND YOU" even sports a guitar solo with surf-era influenced bends. Last but not least, several songs have clear radio air play potential with "I REMEMBER", "LOST IN TIME", "I'M SORRY YOUR GONE", and "I NEVER TOLD YOU" having likely widespread appeal. Bottom line, a very easy and enjoyable listening from start to finish. Favorite songs include "DON'T WALK AWAY", "I REMEMBER", "LOST IN TIME", and "I NEVER TOLD YOU". Can't wait for more songs from a talent that makes one ask... what is he capable of? Ron-New Jersey
Hi Bob, Finally had the chance to get onto mp3.com and listened to your recordings. You should have entered 104.3's
guitar battle contest a few months ago. You could have done well. The winner didn't sound as good as you... and I played it on a crappy laptop's built-in speakers. If "BOSTON" ever needs a replacement string bender, they should give you a call. They must have been a somewhat early influence on your styling. Talk to you soon. Tom-Pennsylvania
Dear Bob, Thanks so much for the tape! It's FABULOUS! Your still making music-living out your dream-what a cool career.
I'd love to hear you perform live, so please let me know when and where I can catch the band play. Cyndi-New Jersey
Hi Bob, From one guitar player to another, very nicely done. Good luck! Bob-New Jersey

Guitar playing is cool but 80's styling - for sure a BOSTON flavor but what's BOSTON doing today? This would not make it in the mainstream of the music industry by today's standards. There is just so much wrong in these tracks...
Drums sound like midi's or a BOSS Dr.Rhythm (a very distinctive cheesy sound) and the drums sound lost in the mix and probably should be beefed up - the dynamics of the drums are terrible regardless if they're midi's or whatever and to be quite frank, there's a heck of a lot more post-production work needed (EQ,FX,Levels,Panning, etc, etc). Vocals need to be up front more in the mix, sounded like they were just run thru a chorus FX. Truthfully, I do not think this is ready to be sold! not even at $10.00, not even at $5.00!!!
I'm sorry that I can't see eye to eye with some of the other so-called reviewers - I guess they are your friends and they are good friends not to hurt your feelings by sugar coating it or blowing smoke up your butt! I, for one, can be as honest and not hold back. I do not know you and as for hearing your music for the first time - it's ok. You are a talented guitar player and probably better sounding with a live band. I guess it's safe to say that you played all the instruments on this CD (well, except for those drums) and you were also the Engineer/Producer...
This is a nice CD for close family and friends but not to charge $10.00 for. A disappointment from start to finish. Needs to be taken back for more PRE & POST production work and maybe even redo those drums tracks!!!
